Where to find various vehicle kits?

The two scales may be close, but I asked because the original poster may have a preference. He didn't say, so I asked. Understood. That's why I said it won't have the same selection as a hobby shop. Ollie's sells primarily closeouts, remnants, and stock from similar sources. That's why I...

I think i've found ideal putty for my models

Yeah, there's only one Apoxie Sculpt. Sometimes it is referred to as "Aves A&B", but the product is "Apoxie Sculpt". In their Apoxie line, there is also a clay and a paste, also both 2-part products, but those aren't the epoxy putty.

I think i've found ideal putty for my models

I use Aves ("ay-veez"), too, for sculpting, and I'll second Momo. I have never had any issues with chunks or grit in the putty, that weren't resolved by just kneading some more. I knead till it feels smooth throughout. My batch is perhaps 20 years old, too, and the gray part has some...

    Remove glue on car windows

What kind of glue? A lot of modelers use white glue to attach clear parts. If it's styrene glue, or CA glue, then do as Momo suggests-polish the area and then coat it with something to fill the fine scratches. If it's white glue, aka PVA glue, or Microscale's clear parts adhesive, warm water...

Where to find various vehicle kits?

Another resource is the NNL group of shows. I've forgotten what "NNL" stands for, but I know people who are involved with the NNL East and NNL Philly shows. There is also an NNL show staged in Boyertown, PA, that was just held for this year a week or two ago. NNL East's website is...

Where to find various vehicle kits?

What scale are you thinking of? Most kits will be in 1/24 or 1/25. You're in Latrobe, so you may well have an Ollie's Bargain Outlet near you-the chain started in Harrisburg, after all. Ollie's carries kits from Round2, who own the AMT brand, the Lindberg brand, and some others. Their...

The fella who built the TBF without a base, Joe Wagner, is a member of our Delaware Valley Scale Modelers club. The last time the Region 2 show was held in the area (Cherry Hill), he headed a club project for a build that we would all enter as a club. We used the Eduard P-39Q kit in 1/48. Joe...

EasyOff and other oven cleaners will do the job-once. A big advantage of SuperClean over oven cleaners is that you spray the oven cleaner, and that's it for that batch. With SuperClean, you can fill a jar and use a batch over and over. SuperClean is also not quite as caustic as EasyOff. You...

    Equipping The Paint Room

I've got 2, a Paasche VL, and an Iwata Neo. I got the Neo second-hand and haven't used it yet. I like my Paasche VL, it's a double-action, though I use it mostly as a single-action brush. It's rugged and reliable. The only thing I don't like very much is that it's a siphon-fed brush, and the...

It's like an old-school kit from the early days! Gotta block that off with some plastic card. :D

Thanks for sharing your photos, Blake! I grew up not far from Willow Grove, in Harleysville. We were close to one of the approaches to the field, and I used to get to see the Orions returning. And later, the A-10s on their approaches.

You can definitely soak pieces in SuperClean. I use it, too, and I use glass jars of different sizes as baths to soak pieces and remove paint. It will also strip chrome from chromed sprues, if you want to. That was my first use for SC-I stripped the chrome from the chromed sprues in the old...

    Classic Airframes 1/48 Hawk III

Thanks for posting that! I didn't know about that kit, either. Yeah, the story with the Navy is interesting. The BF2C was the end of the line for Curtiss' Navy Hawks. It was a development of the F11C, to replace the fixed landing gear with retractable gear. Curtiss also replaced the...

IMPS National Plastic Model Contest 2023 in San Marcus Texas

You guys have touched on another factor to consider, when deciding to weather or not, and how much: the subject. Car models are less likely to be heavily weathered than an armor or airplane model, for example. Not that there aren't car subjects to weather-the junkyard vignette is popular, for...

How to paint hood a Mach 1 hood stripe?

Yeah, I use white as an undercoat for yellow, for white, and for red, too. If possible, I'll use a light primer, too, then the white undercoat, then the finish color. Another color that I have read that some use, as an undercoat for red, is pink. I have not tried that myself, since white works...

How to paint hood a Mach 1 hood stripe?

I've never used Vallejo's primer, so I can't comment on its quality. But if it's applied with an airbrush, that's the reason I haven't used it. I prefer to use rattlecans for priming; no cleanup afterwards. I like Tamiya Fine Surface Primer for its coverage, which is fine indeed. And a can...
