I hear you on the pin marks and flash. I was really surprised to the degree the Salvino JR kits have pin marks on top surfaces and some strange sink marks in other areas. Almost seems like there isn't enough plastic pushed into the molds, or a lot of shrinkage after they are knocked out of the...

I totally get it. Even my current NASCAR build the decals from Powerslide are a different color than what the car is molded in. I guess I learned over the years of mishaps to get all my references photos (right time frame and/or actual subject) together before I start painting and decaling...

I'd agree with you there on that one. I really don't think the bend is so severe that it really requires the notch though.

I haven't had to much time lately for the build, but I did dress up the engine a little bit and finally got it mounted. It didn't want to sit in level and had to do a little modifications. It's in as level as it can get and the headers clear where they need to. I've been cleaning up a lot of the...

If it walks like a duck... oh wait a minute, different animal all together. Seriously though, I think your plan of attack is on point. Short of using the model for slot car racing, wheels glued in position should not be an issue at all. Your model, your choice. ;)

Pearl Harbor Trio - Hasegawa boxed-set (Zero, Val, Kate)

You can throw them in a half used bottle of Tamiya extra thin cement to make some liquid styrene to use as a filler/putty. ;)

I've done this once before with a small part similar to this. You can use the good part you have and lie it flat like you have it and press milliput or molding clay over it to make a mold. Use quick UV cure resin and cast an identical part. If it is a good match to the original, now take to...

@Tommergun Man that thing is looking great! Especially for an old kit like that, excellent work.

Just a small update here. I painted up the engine parts and assembled, but touch ups will be done after mounting. The firewall has been painted, lower arms added and just have to wait for glue to cure for some detail painting. Floor framing and under tray ready for some white (airbrushing soon...

The Micro set and a little heat from an iridescent light bulb will make life easier to get all the decals to lay flat. I noticed on old decals like that, the Micro Sol can actually eat them up and cause crazing. HTH

Chris, I don't believe Ponto Models make a set for the 1/200 USS Hornet CV8, but they do make one for Trumpeter or I Love Kit 1/200 USS Enterprise CV-8, which could be used easily since they were both Yorktown class CVs. I think the only difference for the most part was Hornet had Mark 37...
