Yeah I was a bit surprised at the size too. Not sure I'll do another with all these lines. The plastic of these wings is heavier than any other model I've built. It's a bit strange.

Did a bit of work on this yesterday and today and came to realize I'm missing a wheel strut, A frame. Putting this on hold while I wait for a reply from academy. I was just getting into this build too!

Have not heard back from academy so I'll do my best to scratch build the a frame. It shouldn't be too difficult. Put the upper wing on the other night and it was funny how I kept hesitating to commit to it. I suppose like everything else the viewings get easier with practice. You need six hands to do them though!

So I had an idea. I'm working on the a frame and thought why not try to make a mold? Let's see if it's any good.

Hit it with satin varnish this morning so I'll work on decals and weathering while I try my hand at scratch building.

Well my playdough mold definitely did not work so back to use sprue scraps. I applied decals this morning. Not my best job ever. I usually use satin varnish instead of gloss because I feel I get more control sliding them into place and they tend to stick better. I've had decals move on me after placement with gloss in past. Anyway that was a mistake with all these ridges. They wouldn't slide at all over satin. Lesson learned. I do like the plane and will probably do another biplane- although; I've yet to run the support cables. I'm dreading that. Anyway hope you like it so far.

Ez line. I started out trying to use the string the kit provided and thought it would be much easier to add ez line at end. We'll see. These decals are not laying flat. I keep buying them with solvaset and it's not happening.
That's what I was thinking too... Let's see how well that goes!
Well that was weird. Went to post this and it flashed and disappeared. So now you get readers digest version. Scratch built one set of landing gear, decided not to do exhaust staining. Cool kit. I'd do the tail cables as I was building it next time.

I felt the glue was a little sloppy. I would try to do the cables out of the fuselage at tail differently but not sure how that would work when it comes to painting. It would have been helpful to have something to hold the plane

Good looking build! Interesting subject, I haven't seen many WWI aircraft models.
If you have an academy kit beware the guns. Apparently mine are mounted upside down. I thought the poster was just harassing me but when I studied the images he was correct. For some reason academy has the positioning tab on the wrong side. The front of the barrel is supposed to be on the low side not up top. Argh. Hmm and I just noticed a metal piece on the prop is panted wood- guess I'm not finished with this kit! Haha.
