I usually build muscle cars and I’ll shoot a coat or two of gloss - I never wet sand. Most of them aren’t really showroom shiny. Low riders… they tend to be shiny glossy like mirror because they like it shiny - especially to bring out the candy metallic colors.
Vallejo may have some effect to why the paint pulled off after hand brushing Tamiya’s clearcoat. Had you airbrushed it, I don’t think it would been an issue.
Personally, Vallejo is garbage. I don’t like them. They have sort of a rubbery feel when dry. Heck, even their liquid mask is pure garbage.
Clearcoat shouldn’t pull paint off. Base coat meaning what?
Are you referring Tamiya “base coat” as TS-101 Base White in rattlecan? If so, that’s a lacquer paint, not enamel or acrylic spray paint. And it’s not used as a primer.
Either way, it shouldn’t have any effect on why your X-22 clear...
FSM… that POS of a magazine. FSM is certainly isn’t what it used to be back in the 90s and early part of 2000s. Now it’s the same old same old articles. FSM is starting to get really stale and won’t be a bit surprised the magazine ends its publication. They’re asking to much $$$ for 6 THIN...
Looking pretty good… I kinda like the idea with the cockpit on the wings prior to closing up the fuselage. At least you know it’s in the proper fit where it should be.
I haven’t done a Jeep kit since I was a kid in the late 70s - most likely it was an MPC kit back then.
My favorite brand when it comes to auto kits were vintage Monogram, MPC and the old Revell vintage kits of the 70s and 80s. AMT aren’t too bad. I’ve acquired a few vintage kits from my youth...
Treat any clearcoat as paint. They still need to be thinned regardless it’s enamel or acrylic. Gloss clear prior to decal applications. Flat coat to seal the decals in and weathering.
Most likely repops of the original molds - especially if they’re old moldings. I haven’t been too impressed with Revell lately except for their newer stuff (Revell of Germany)
Revell has a habit of repopping old Monogram kits as pure garbage. Revel bought out all of Monogram original molds and...
That was my thinking. That color did mention the year and make Cortez Silver was used for. Most likely Platinum Poly was the old name for it back then.
Depends if the OP is willing to spend stupid money on it. I doubt he will.
I’ve used Duplicolor in rattlecan and to be honest, they’re pure garbage. Not for plastic. I know some do use it.
