    SodaCity ModelCon in Columbia SC

Thanks to all the folks who put in the work to host the SodaCity ModelCon in Columbia SC. There wasn't much online info available about this show before the event, so I wasn't sure what to expect- or even if the event was actually happening- but I drove up from Savannah anyway. It turned out to...

    Unpublished C47 photos

So many of our ww2 vets are gone now... one of my very favorite memories is once when my lovely wife got me a ride on a B17... a very old, thin man was part of our group, and I asked what made him want to take this flight. He surprised me and said, "I haven't been in one of these since 1945..."...

    C-47 SKYTRAIN

Just an FYI, I posted some unpublished photos of my father's C47 in the reference section just the other day. They aren't the greatest photos, but they are different.

    Unpublished C47 photos

It wasn't censored or anything, and I haven't altered the photo (apart from the contrast that I mentioned.) It always looked to me like they did an outline with the intent to color it in at some point, but I don't know if that ever happened. My Dad passed away in 1977, so I can't ask him... so...

    Unpublished C47 photos

Here are a few scans of my father's C47 "Stand Up and Cheer" during ww2, where he was a radio operator. I remember building a model of this plane with him when I was a kid, carefully piecing together bits of decal to get the M2 on the nose. These are starting to fade pretty badly, so I've...

1/72 dimensions of a basic house

Would this work? It's scaled for 28mm, not 1/72

    About That Aurora Hartford kit...

About the only thing to do is look for another Hartford on eBay for the additional parts. As it's a sub, maybe scratchbuilding or pulling parts from a similar kit might be a possibility? At any rate, advise your client (additional costs, time, etc) as he/she may be expecting miracles.

    Hello from Latrobe!

If you get the chance, I'd HIGHLY recommend attending a model show if you can. They are super resources for buying kits- I've always found some great deals on some old kits that I either built or wanted to build when I was a kid. (decals often need replacing, though). About the only downside is...

Trying to learn scaling from one to another.

Consider buying a laser engraver/ cutter with Lightburn software. It's a LONG learning curve, but I love mine (Sculpfun S9, but I'll probably upgrade to an S30 pro at some point). I've been using it to scratchbuild some Warhammer 40K terrain pieces, and I'm currently working on a scratchbuilt...

    Laser engravers?

Just curious... are any of you folks using a laser engraver to help with your model builds? How are you using it? I have a Scuplfun S9 that I absolutely love using. It only cuts paper and cardstock. I don't usually cut plastic (I've seen some nightmare photos of cutting any sort of plastic...

In over my head the Sea Witch Clipper ship night mare.

These old kits were never easy to put together, and you're starting out with a difficult, complex subject. Price was right, though. I'd suggest looking for some build logs on the internet... have a look at the "Lady Nelson" stop motion build video for a simpler subject. Of course, this makes it...

    Paint conversion charts

I make my own chip charts. I use a spray-primed index card and line off a small square at the edge, and then brush in the color & write the name next to it. This way I can compare any color that I have in my stash with any other reference, including my FS595. This won't help if you haven't...
