Corsair 1/48

Nicely done. Ive got one to build after Im done with my b17. its my first real build in many many years. I love the corsair. And the black sheep! I actually had my wife get me the series on dvd for christmas this year and Im watching it now. I love that show.

Ive been looking at different builds on this plane and also video from ww2 and such and Im trying to figure out the color. Isnt the entire plane supposed to be that navy blue color... what ever its actually called?

if you google " f4u paint schemes " there are a whole lotta pages to peruse .
All I really know about them is that they went to that darker blue after the war , into Korea .

Do you or anyone know if vmf-214 had any specific markings? Ive been doing some research on Boyington and I havent been able to determine that part yet

From below , " They chose for their badge to carry into battle the black shield of illegitimacy, the bend sinister, a black sheep superimposed above a circle of twelve stars, and crowned with the image of their aircraft, the F4U-1 Corsair. "

But , It doesn't look like it was ever part of the aircraft livery :

that was my thought as well. Ive seen the patch but it does not look like the corsairs themselves had specific squadron markings. I also read that according to Pappy himself they didnt have specific planes as their own. They often ended up flying whatever was air worthy at the time.

That's always the case , even today .
Pilots won't necessarily be flying the plane that has their name on it .
