Supply Shortages

Just giving a heads up. I have a friend that's very high level in retail and late last year the person relayed to me that if you have anything you want, you better buy it now because shortages are coming quick. He's not in model retail just speaking based on what he is in the know on. So I started really paying attention just to the supply of hobby kits and I have lost any doubt my friend may have been off base. I order mostly from hobbylinc and here is an example of items I would purchase that are really low and seem to keep going lower. Some of the items have been out of stock well into last year and others are recent. Here is a quick example of Tamiya model kit numbers available and out of stock at Hobbylinc. 1/48th Aircraft 83 carried 33 out of stock, 1/48th Armor 62 kits carried 21 out of stock, 1/35th armor out of 205 kits offered 88 out of stock. Those numbers are getting close to half the Tamiya kits aren't available, that's a lot. I have been following this since late last year. Nothing and I mean nothing in that time frame has been restocked just more disappearing. Just a month ago I went to a local hobby shop that was all RC and started carrying models. They already can't replenish model kits from their supplier. Just curious if anyone any of you have also noticed a lack of restocking anywhere else?

Supply chain disruptions have been with us since March 2020, really. I'm still waiting on delivery of a refrigerator that I paid for in December.

Yeah that sounds about right and my wife never got a kegrator she ordered in Nov. 2020 it just kept getting pushed back. She finally cancelled it and was actually able to get one just recently. Yahoo! Homemade beer on tap. Now I just have to grow the ingredients to avoid supply chain issues.

Hmmm... Hopefully that doesn't affect my Enterprise build. Once the light kit is in all I really need are the rattle cans of paint. But I need to get a new car before I can worry about the paints. So hopefully I won't get screwed on paints when I need to start gettin them. :(

I have heard there is extreme cargo back up due to covid restriction issues in the ports. Kinda makes sense to me considering the time frame. Oh well get what you can and have a ball with it is what I say.

Well, I guess then after I buy the new car I'll just have to try to see what I can get. I'll need 6 cans each of grey green, gloss clear and flat clear. Hopefully I can at least get the grey green. I can piecemeal the gloss and flat I guess.

I'm sure you'll find what you need. I am just curious if others have noticed. I have been paying attention to kits not supplies as I'm well stocked on those for now. I have a habit of buying two of everything in the supply realm, so I have a spare. When I break out the spare to use, I order another.

Ideally I would too, but this Enterprise project by necessity has had to be piecemealed, added to the fact that I basically had to stray from scratch with the entire kit and kaboodle for supplies and stuff. I doubt I'd have even half of what I have now if it hadn't been for the extra stimulus and tax money in the spring.

Hey you guys, my LHS, HobbySense here in Winnipeg, is stocked right to the ceiling with kits...! You want tanks...he's got tanks...TONs of 'em. You want planes...same thing. He has over 9000 bottles of paint...in 5-6 brands in acrylic, lacquer and enamel(new Tamiya rack). He has tools galore and biggest selection of cars in the city...HELL in CANADA...!! Check out his site, reasonable shipping and FAST...!!

I go to hobbylinc and megahobby to get cheap Tamiya 1/35 tanks/armor for my apocalypse/scratch/bit bash as it offers a great track body for and 1/24 - 1/25 scale car body to be affixed to.

I need to post some pictures tomorrow of my one creation so far. I think it's pretty neat.
