Hello guys
I have all these old kits laying around, and my daughter... Yes my daughter, asked if we could build this thing together...

There's only one answer to that!

So the Tie advanced kit... Otherwise known as the Darth Vader on toilet version. Fit issues galore, I honestly considered just buying the Bandai one so we could the build to the fun part. But the daughter was OK with it taking a while. I won't go overboard, but I'll try to at least address some of the fit issues. Which means all the insets and the holes ind the main fuselage.

Awesome, can't wait to see more.

I thought the same thing. He's sitting there on his throne reading the Death Star Times and wondering which minion took the last square of toilet paper haha!

That old kit was a troubled piece.
Can turn out great if patient, though
True... I was tempted to rebuild the insets at the back of the 'arms' simply cut out the entire thing and rebuild the hole and the inset... It's wrong anyway. But then again, my daughter isn't that much for the assembly part, more the painting.

Soooo I sanded some edges

and gave them another pass with the putty. I hope that'll be enough for the edges.

We did watch A new hope while I worked on it the daughter was content to just crash on the couch.

I did putty the edges on the solar panels but it didn't stick. Now I've given them some homemade glueandsprue. In the hopes that'll stick better.

Haha... Wolf that cracked me up. Death Star times... Haha

LMAO! "I sense something. A presence I've not felt since I ate at Taco Bell" Hahahahaha!

Great project! I built that when it first came out. I remember thinking it was cool, but I was disappointed that they didn't bring out a regular TIE fighter at the time. But I was 14, and it was just cool to build!

Thank you Baron

I bought this around 2000. I was about 25... At that time there where only these kits, at least where I live. I think I started hearing about fine Molds... But they where very exotic still... And way way out of reach in Denmark.

Anyway my 15 year old daughter has - for reasons unknown to me - found the joy of Star wars... The classic ones. Thankfully she's not into the disaster that is the ep 7,8 and 9. So when the time comes she'll be painting this thing and displaying it in her room...

Me... I'm just a proud dad!

Tonight's progress

You're so lucky. The maximum I got from my daughter was 10m of work on a model and an "this is very relaxing" and she never went near a kit again ...

Fun build work and looks like fun memories happening at the same time. Something to be proud of.

Thank you VMCR
I always thought it'd be the boy... Well he is into star wars, but not as much as the daughter tho...

OK I admit we've disgused why I like scifi a lot, and I ended up introducing her to the new BSG... That got her started down the path. Newer thought it'd stick tho.

Thank you Hagoth
I am... Actually both kids like the painting part of the proces... We did assemble the Bandai star destroyer and death star set together. But those kits just fit so well it's scary.

Even the wife accepts that I dragged the big shop compressor into the office room... Kinda amazing, cuz that thing is loud when it goes off.
