This month we Meet Dave Beswitherick
What is your name? Dave Beswitherick
What is your user name on the forum? Ialarmu
Where you live? (City, Province/State, Country) Palmerston Ontario Canada
What do you do for a living? Installer for a security company
What is your age? 38
Married? Single? Children? Married 11 years with 2 girls who have me completely wrapped around their finger.
When did you start building models? Any sentimental memories of your first builds? I was about 10, first kit was an AMT X-wing fighter. I always loved the idea of model building as a kid, I remember never being allowed to paint them so I would try and get the decals to stick to the bare plastic.
How did you get into modeling? Always was into modelling, Just not as much as I am now.
If you have recently 'got back' to the hobby, what brought you back? I hit the hobby hard last year(2009) when a medical condition disqualified me from a possible dream career that I was halfway through the hiring process of. It helped keep my mind busy through a dissapointing time.
What types of models do you build? Mostly aircraft, aircraft fascinate me although I'm somewhat afraid to fly. I think anyone who would strap on one of these beasts to defend ones country is a true hero......and probably insane.
What is your favorite part of the build? I love to paint and weather however, I've started to enjoy the build process more and more.
What part do you struggle with the most? Re-scribing, I hate re-scribing.
What is your dream project? Restore an old tank from WW2, preferably allied. Although I would probably just buy one, driving it would be way more fun......
What other hobbies do you have? I used to be a flight simmer, I still do it sometimes but computers rot your brain.
Do yo have any pets? 1 goldfish that my kids never feed. I'm allergic to pets.
Please describe your mancave.
An absolute dump,I literaly ripped out a closet in a junk room in the back corner of the house. I'm allowed to make as much mess in it as I like without repercussions from the other half.
I'm going to put up more shelves soon and need to build some kind of extraction system.
What is your favorite tool? I love my riveting tool
What motivates you to build models? I'm never completely happy with my builds, I always try to do better.
What music (if any) do you listen to when you model? No music really, It's a great time for me (as a Christian) to listen to online Bible study.
Do you fly your models around the room? Only when I'm completely fed up...I've launched 1 or 2.
If you could be a paint color, what would it be? What?........er yellow....umm....huh?
Are there any modeling genres you haven’t tried? If yes, what and why not. Not really, well, maybe that Gundam stuff but it really doesn't pull me. I've tried pretty much all the usual subjects.
Do you save ‘random household items’ for a future kitbash / scratchbuild? Not really
Do you have any ‘secret tips’ that you would want to share? Don't really have any, I'm still learning, If I do find one I'll be sure to let you know.
