Hobby Boss A-10 N/AW 1/48 Completed
« on: Sun Jan, 29, 2012, 07:26:PM »
OK, I just finished my first build of the year.
Let the pigeons loose!  ;D
Built OOB with no AM and used decals provided. This kit went together well with very good parts fit. I rushed this build to get back into a groove and let some mistakes, all on my part, slide. Outside of a poorly detailed two-seat cockpit (not to mention a bit confusing instruction sheet where landing gear is concerned) this model has great external features. Clean panel lines, uncountable amount of rivets, and a very big set of extremely clear, and dare I say it...sexy canopy parts are the cream in this kit. Naturally I fudged the canopy...you live, you learn.
This also was my first attempt at both pre and post shading. Panel lines are an oil wash over hardened Future. She's capped off with Tamiya Flat Clear from the spray can.
Please all comments welcome,
Anthony

Looks good, Boss!  I will be starting an A-10 soon.  When I post pics of mine it will make your feel MUCH better about yours  .

The panel lines look very nice.  I'm going to try the same thing.

Thanks guys. I toyed around with my camera with this model as I wasn't really too pleased with the first pics I posted. I think these look a little better....darn Tamiya XF-24 (Dark Grey)...makes this pig look awfully dark.

I like the dark grey paint scheme, looks good. You might have said earlier - but what scale was the kit?

Those second round of pics came out great.  I really like the shot of the cockpit, it came out great!

The color call out on the markings sheet for this kit use Mr. Color and Aqveous. Both are referred to as Medium Gunship Grey # 305. When I cross referenced a conversion of Mr. Color to Tamiya I came out with XF-24 Dark Grey. The FS equivalent being Lt. Gunship Grey FS36118.

And the box art shows a far stretch from that color scheme. Notice all the chips and weathering on the hull. I think ARC has pics of this very same A-10 in it's walk around forum and I didn't see any chipping on the hull's surface. Maybe some bird droppings on the tail rudder and a faded paint job but overall it looked as if this plane was decommissioned.

Thanks for the info. I have a 1/32 scale kit of this that I'm planning on doing that Gray scheme. And that's a little less research I'll have to do.

Thanks a million!

Myke,

I am obsessed with my A-10 now.  Will you let me know how the 1/32 goes, are you going to start a thread here on SMA?

Absolutely. The way my year is going it looks like I'll get it started probably just after the Spring Contest. That should give me enough time to collect all the AM parts.

Myke, I don't know if I can wait that long.  Haha.  Which kit do you have?

Thanks,

Adam

Very sharp looking plane here
