She IS an excellent kit out of the box.
The guns are an issue, true, but they are actually separate pieces when they could have easily been cast as surface detail.
She can be lit with a little bit of effort, and looks sharp.
My Galactica build up can be found in the "You're so Spaced Out" section.
I have a second one waiting for armor and some custom work.
I would whole-heartedly recommend this kit

I actually have plans for at least 4, maybe more now that I have perused the Starship Modeler forum on all things BSG.....a Columbia with more armor panels would be cool, just how to go about it as even .005" sheet styrene looks a little too thick for armor.
The 4 builds I have in my head, in no particular order are as follows.
1. Galacitca as we see her the new series, at the end of her life span, weathered, beaten on, and just plain run down.
2. Galactica from the upcoming pilot Blood and Chrome, 10yrs into the first Cylon war, and very early in Galactica's life. Essentially the same ship, just not as beaten and worn as we see her in the 2006 version.
3. Word has it with Blood & Chrome they are going to go back to the premise of the original series that there are 12 battlestars, one for each colony. And in the Original series there was of course Pegasus, which was the same class as Galactica. So it is no stretch to think that there wouldn't be a Pegasus of the same class in Blood and Chrome.
4. Combining 2 Galactica kits to make a Heavy Carrier. 4 flight pods, 6-8 engines, a bulkier head to the ship. Sort of maybe the prototype to the eventual Mercury class Battlestars, but set in the time frame of Blood & Chrome.
Once I can figure out how to go about putting more armor on it, many other ships can be made, Columbia, Triton, etc, etc. Also, there is nothing saying that Galactica from Blood & Chrome wouldn't have more armor attached to it either, as it was during the war, and when the Nu BSG started, they were really at peace, so really no reason to have Galactica fully armored, since they were at peace, and Galactica was being retired to museum status.

Armor's one of the tricks I have to figure for my second build as well.
Doing her as the Battlestar Solaria.
She'll get a couple of other mods, but the armor's the biggie slowing me down.
I also whole-heartedly recommend Paragrafix etch/decal set for this kit

Yes, I would like to get the Paragraphix set myself, but my supplier hasn't gotten any yet, and even Paragraphix themselves are temporarily OOS

It will be well worth the price when you do.
Superior guns, raised nameplates, and girders for the insides of the flight pods.
And, not to forget, covers for the Starboard flight pod museum

It does look like a cool little kit.
One more build possibility guys, why not do one with the flight decks retracted and ready for an FTL jump?

I had that thought as well, but it isn't as simple as leaving off the pod legs and fitting the pods into the recesses....because...well....they don't fit. So there does have to be some modifications done to fit it.
Someone on SSM tried it, and the pods don't fit all the way in. I am kind of following it to see what he does. Would be cool though.

I really can't wait to get my hands on it. Just been too cost prohibitive at the moment and with the new Round 2 releases...
Is that the name of reviews that people do for the SMA community? "Sprue View"?
I like it!

Hey there Mike,
I provide the content for the Sprue View....I think the name was actually Scott G's idea (can't recall now).
Galactica is a good kit, (got a couple in stock at the moment, hint, hint) and really not that badly priced considering the number of parts in the kit.
There are a few things to watch out for when building the kit, namely the Main Hull sides, Parts #3 and #4....as they are a little fidlely to fit, but other than that, its a great kit.
There are rumblings about the head sits too high, the guns aren't detailed enough, blah, blah. Head looks fine to me....the guns...well Moebius could have molded them into the fuselage, but decided to give them to us as separate pieces, which they should be commended for.
There are lots of aftermarket items out there, included an entire decal "skin" for the kit. I am not really thrilled about the number of decals in the aftermarket set, and boring something AKE said in one of his videos, if you gave the kit as is to 10 different people, you would probably end up with 10 different versions, however give the kit with the aftermarket decals to the same 10 people, and you would end up with 10 kits all exactly the same, and who wants that??
Big thing to get it to look "right", is going to be paint, and washes and drybrushing, and detail painting, etc, etc, and will be a long process, but I think the modeler will be rewarded immensely in the end with their own creation, rather than looking the same as the one that Jim Bob finished last week.
Just my opinion anyway.

Good stuff on the sprue view. Thanks for sharing. The model looks very good. I may get one and model the Pegasus.
One thing I have noticed [I want to know if it's just me] the doors on the bridge of the Pegasus have the Colonial Mil. Forces logo with BSG 62 and the ships name. Should it read BSP-62? just asking.

No. BSG is correct. It's the TLA for "Battlestar Group" like today's Carrier Groups
