The Scale Model Addict BIG Spring Contest

CONTEST RULES - Note that as of June 1st the FIGURE category has been changed to ALL OPEN. See below.

SMA is short for Scale Model Addict
  • Must be a new project and a photo of unbuilt kit with a current newspaper showing date is required to keep everyone honest.
  • Submit your name, mailing address and email address and next of kin. Hey, this could become heated.
  • Kit name / Scale / Manufacturer / Pet name you have for the kit
  • There is no rule 7 and will never be a rule 7.
  • Aftermarket part(s) name / Manufacturer must be listed
  • Agree to submit one photo at mid-project when request via email
  • Please refer to Rule 4
  • Final entries are to include five (5) photos of finished model. Three of the pictures should be a front view, top view, and side view. The remaining images are optional and can be used to show off specific details or just to shoot the model from some of its more better angles. Claudia Shiffer may not be included in the shots as this may prejudice the judging.
  • Image file dimensions must be minimum 800x600px @ 72dpi. The only exception to this may be cases that conflict with Rule 7.
  • Model description, including how you built the model, special techniques applied, and a description of your preferred evening wear
  • Herd contestants who wear slippers designed to look like animals must wear the left slipper on the right foot and right slipper on the left foot while building their entries.
  • All contests agree that SMA can use entry photos on scalemodeladdict.com, marketing materials and products.
  • Competitors are required to pay a $5 contest fee upon entering the competition. This is an administrative fee to cover costs only and hopefully will keep contestants motivated beyond the fantastic prizes offered.
  • There is no rule 14 but it just seemed like a bad idea to end a list of rules with 13. Please refer to Rule 7 if you need clarification.

NERD HERD VOTE

Registered forum members only. Must be registered a few days prior to end of contest. SMA staff will determine the cutoff date and disallow registration from the cutoff date until the vote period ends. All scales are fine. Must be a plastic and/or resin ‘build and paint’ model. Modified toys are not allowed. Kit bashes are allowed. Photoetch and metal is fine. You know what I mean.

Completed models or semi started at any date are eligible in this category. No date proof required. Open to ALL GENRES. Multiple entries per person are allowed. One fee per kit entry. Entries in this category are not eligible for Best of Show.

Engage your imagination. Any model or diorama, real, fictional, whatever. As long as it’s obvious that it fits the theme GARBAGE it’s fine with us. You may concoct an elaborate back story / description. We encourage it actually.

SPECIAL CATERGORY: SWORDS INTO PLOWSHARES

Take a weapons system and convert it into something peaceful. Examples would be how the Russians turned their older tanks into forest fighting equipment or the old warplanes turned into racers or mapping planes or water bombers and even a minesweeper into the Calypso (Jacques Cousteau). The finished product doesn't even have to be real; a light bomber dropping mail in Australia. Again you may concoct an elaborate back story / description. We encourage it.

The staff of SMA will be giving away kits and SMA gear to whoever they please and will determine the winners based on what they think is a really cool model. The staff of SMA will invent random quirky categories at their will just because they are the staff of SMA and they can. So there.
