Title: Painting the already-red Corvette model
Post by: pupeno on Thu Dec, 28, 2017, 06:51:AM
Hello,

I just got the 2014 Corvette Stingray model by Revell:

https://www.scalemates.com/kits/765241-revell-07060-2014-corvette-stingray

and I didn't realize it already comes red. I want to paint it yellow. Any recommendations how to go about it?

Also, I want to remove the roof. My plan is to do a rough cut with a dremel and then file. Does that make sense?

Essentially, I want to make it look like this: https://i.imgur.com/Cn1EEeI.jpg

Pretend it's not already red and paint it yellow .
Primer first .

Is that you behind the wheel  , or on the hood ?

If you want to paint the car anything but red,... you must paint it, silver first, then primer then your yellow,...
Otherwise the red dye in the plastic will leach out at clear time,...Garrandarnteed,...
Cheers

The color leaves the plastic ?  That red is applied AFTER the injection molding ? It travels through primer ? the clear coat ? Silver ?

Don't ask me how or why,..but tis true...
I don't know why just red either, but, its true.... saw it on my own build.
This is the Snap Kit of Revell's, Injection molded in red,..

I primed and painted it silver, then hit it with clear and this orange came up in shallow spots,...
It's been talked to death on the car sites over the years, and the silver then primer then paint is the agreed procedure...
Cheers
