The 1:150 Swedish Regal Ship Wasa by Revell
« on: Wed Jan, 31, 2018, 07:37:PM »
Well, this is just dandy. Just when I'm about to start up this project again I'm getting a cold. I wonder if its a message from the guy upstairs telling me to give it up, well if so he has met his match.

But then I'm a guy, and the ladies know when we guys get sick we tend to get a bit homesick for mom's chicken soup (or whatever is our favorite). Common guys raise your hand now don't be shy you know I'm telling the truth here, or am I out sailing.

Speaking of which, let's start this chapter of Sweden's first attempt at building a submarine.

I didn't want the regular stand instead I placed the ship moored at the docks.

And as you can see I have started a bit on the top deck painting. For starters, I'm focusing on getting the yellow line painted up first.

And as you can see by the dates on the photos It's been on the shelf for quite some time.

It will have homemade Lanyards and Ratlines on the lowest level any higher might be more of a headache at this time, haven't done any kind of wooden boat in the past. But it's on my bucket list.

For now, this is the state of the aft parts. I might use some mild solvent to strip the paint and start over.

ok since my sleeping routine is shot to heck by this darn cold, I figure I might as well give you an update on the build.

Basically, I'm starting over from scratch, I yanked the gun-decks from the inside of the ship and sanded off some annoying one-millimeter producing things (my English failing me here)

filed of glue residue on the inside of the hull.

The next three photos are just to show the new fit.

Last is a dry fit of the transom

Now, I had this Ida of adding a full second gundeck. But even if I drilled the holes in the grading on the deck they would be so mal you wouldn't be able to see it anyway. so I'm skipping that alteration.

This is coming along nicely - I've always liked the tall mast sailing ships.  Well done!

When I had my cold this spring, I think I actually got the flu. I got a bit irritated at the transom and stripped it of paint, with the wrong paint stripper. The windows were lost in the process, as the plastic got brittle and then dry as a bone.

Once dry and not smelling like a distillery I started the painting it again.

I added some styrene sheets behind the windows.

Gave it the red color and did a test with a darker shade at the bottom (no pic).

Then it took about a month before I started painting the figures, before getting distracted by other things.

revel in a nut shell

Some years ago I bought a Vasa ship (05414) at my local hobby store and let it sit on the shelf for a few years before starting on it, now that I have started working on it again for the third time in as many years. I'm having a bit of an irritation moment whit part 106, top and bottom figures turned out fine, the ones in the middle did not. My question is, is it standard on all models or did I get a badly molded part?

This was the e-mail I sent to Revell Friday last week 09-07-18.

There reply on Monday:

Dear customer,
we received your request, but the address seems to be incomplete.
Kind regards
your service department Revell

(I had sent my question to there spare parts e-mail address)

Now, I know you guys beat the snot out of them during WWII. But you think they start learning to read English at some point. It's not like I was writing to them in Swedish.

Anyway I replied: (address is altered)

My home address is
E.T
Wilkey way 34
90210 Västerås
Sweden

Then I asked again, did I get a badly molded part or not.

They replied on Tuesday:
Dear Mr or Mrs,
Many thanks for your information.
Please rest assured that we will handle your mail without delay and we will contact you, if required.
In the meantime please do not send any identical request in writing or over the phone.
The handling time is about 1-2 weeks.
Kind regards
your Revell Customer Service

So basically our conversation went about as good as this.

So I'll be back in one to two weeks whit an update :-\
