Bandai 1/72 X-wing T-65 Trio
« on: Thu Dec, 14, 2017, 02:45:PM »
Next up on the bench is the followup to the T-70 Trio build, namely a buildup of three 1/72 T-65 X-wings to go with them.

I'll be working with the excellent "RedSquadron" versions of the Bandai kit to make these.
The 'Black" X-wing from the ceiling group will get the blue markings I'd originally intended

I'll be replacing the "Dogfighter" X-wing that I originally built up from the Old AMT 1/43 kit

Finally, I'll be building Luke Skywalker's X-wing.
This one will NOT be the typical "Red Five" build, though. I'll be guilding it up as "Blue Five" from the novelization of the first movie.

Started by doing a great deal of pre-painting of the parts with them still on the sprues.
Using Gunmetal for some of the detail parts, and a custom grey for the cockpits.
The red fuselage strip pieces have all been painted to allow for proper decalling later.

For the 'Black' X-wing, I'm using Vallejo's dark grey primer instead of true black

For the "Dogfighter," I used a coat of craft acrylic red, followed by a coat of Vallejo Scarlet

Wing assemblies finished

Main assembly finished, minus the wing guns.
Next up will be decalling and weathering.

Decals were put on, including 'candy stripe' markings on two guns for each bird.
Weathering was done with a combination of black washes and drybrushing with Vallejo Smoke.

Finished build pics:

Thanks, Scott.
Wishing I could take credit for making those, but I got them off Ebay.

Was a quick little build, though

Great color schemes and very cool display!

Much cooler than just sitting on a shelf

It's like a heritage flight you would see at airshows with all the different eras from the prequels to the sequels

Thanks, blakeh1.
Never thought about it that way, but you're right about it working for that.

VERY nicely done!
I'd love to see you make Hera's X-Wing from season 4 of Rebels (it's got some olive green panels).
