Force Awakens T70 Trio
« on: Sun Nov, 05, 2017, 08:30:PM »
All right,
For this build, I'll be working with three of Bandai's 1/72 Force Awakens kits

Going to be building them up as the survivors of the attack on Starkiller Base at the end of the movie:
Poe Dameron's Black Leader
Blue Three
Red Four
For the Red Four plane, I'll be using a set of decals that I enlarged from a 1/144 set I found online

Detail painting work on the parts while still on the sprue

Wing assemblies done

Cockpit assembly finished

Main assembly finished

Main decalling done.
At this point, they need weathering, guns, and astromech droids

Guns were installed, and the weathering was done with a black wash and a bit of smoke drybrushing
Astromechs were painted up, and then installed
Finished build pics

The Japanese pronunciation for "Blue Three" is the same as "Bruce Lee." It makes playing a game of Uno funner when you can shout "WACHOOOO!" at people.

Thanks, blakeh1.
One of my few complaints from TFA's final battle was that ALL of the X-wings were done in 'Blue Three'
I mean, even Poe's ship is just Blue Three in negative.
I decided to fix that with this build

Whaaaat? Really? That is so lazy. Just like how they made all the X-Wings as Red Five in the "Special Edition" of ANH. That's what I love about the Fine Molds kits: they provided plenty of decal options for their kits. Even their standard TIE Fighter had two different decal options.

Ha - blue 3 in negative. That's kinda dumb yet cool.

Rather than negative, I'd love to see the colors reversed so it's blue with white details...or all red with white!
Those solid color birds could be for ace pilots- everyone else gets a "blue three" version.

Sounds kind of like fun, Jason.
Not too far off what I'm doing with at least a couple of the birds for my next build

I got the TFA X-Wing when it first came out, for a friend of mine. I think I may've done an unboxing video of it. I saw that it did not have decals for the fuselage and instead was just assuming builders would not paint the kit but rather just use the colored plastic. They did not do this for the OT X-Wing. I wonder if they've added these side decals in this new re-release.

I doubt it. I got the side stripes for Red Four because I enlarged a set meant for the 1/144 versions
