3141.9
« on: Sun Aug, 06, 2017, 02:24:PM »
  OK  ,
I decided I needed some kinda booster rocket to push me back into finishing up the too many WIPs I've got going .

Solander just reminded me that there is a Star Wars  Group Build going on  ( there should be a banner or something on the home page   ;)  ) ,,   so yesterday I stopped by the Lobby of the Hobby on the way home hoping to find an AT-ST kit .
I see them there all the time .
But  ,   they had none  , and it's pretty much the only kit that they would have there that I'm liking .  :P

I've been watching  Thereal9thdoctor  building up the  Polar Lights  Enterprise with the Botany Bay  and they had one of those kits  - So

Now  , I'm not a Trekkie so I needed a refresher on what both looked like in the original series .

I studied this vid   ,  ignoring the CGI on the right  :  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Trp_juimNs4

Both ships appear to be very similar in color .
Where is this muted scarlet color coming from that seems to be assigned to the Botany Bay ?
I want to build them up as they appear in that original production .
Where can I find decent images of the ships ?  Stills or video from that episode .

Should be a fun little build.

I'm ready to move to skill level 2    :)

Still trying to find pix of Botany Bay  --   it looks like a panzer , dunkelgelb und Grun  , on Small's build featured on the box   ;D

I want to do it canon --  for once

That's evidently the studio model .

 Here's why I'm asking :

                     " red , huh ?            seriously ? "

I decided I want to have them on a wall mount

..  right now I'm thinking the Botany Bay ~ 10" off the wall and the Enterprise ~ 5.5"
The verticals here are way longer than they will probably be :

... was initially thinking of mounting the base-plate  horizontal  ,, but will most likely make it vertical :

The horizontal will be welded from the back after the length is decided :

I'll install poly joint-blocks in each ship  -- - I guess I could facilitate some pivot like they have provided in the Enterprise's ball-joint base  .     not really that important to me at the moment though :

Aight  -- time to build some spaceships    ;D

  Cool , John

--  This will be one of the few OOB builds I ever do   ;D

 I've got one of these on pre-order  -- > https://hlj.com/product/BANN19552
Supposedly the same 1/1000 scale  .
It will be interesting to see them beside each other .

Both done canon   -  so I've been doing the research .
way more images of the Yamato for sure   ;)

 Interesting  ,
Think this is the first time I've seen printed info on a part    ???

first time with this company though

Just finished mine last night. Up to episode 12 on the build series on my channel, wanna say there will be five or so more episodes for this build. Be aware, the Impulse engine spine attaches slightly crooked - didn't notice this till I had prepped for basecoating, and while I was filming! :( I didn't bother straightening it. Glued it on, and was worried i'd damage the saucer if I busted it off. Otherwise it's a great little kit.

 Oh   :(
I thought you corrected it .
The last episode  , You were saying you'd install it straight .

I'm wondering how the ship goes in reverse   ???   ;D   ,  seems all the engines do their business out the rear

I wanted to fix it, but worried that I might damaged the part or the saucer so left it go. Well, there are supposed to be reaction control thrusters all around like on the refit/A, but they were never made on the model! Dunno why. and somehow the impulse engines can vector their thrust(in the movies and TNG the impulse exhaust ports have a ventlike setup that is supposed to be a gimble thing to the ports can turn side to side/up and down to like 30/45 degrees. So I figure the original ship had that too, and that combined with the rcs thrusters is how she reverses. The refit/A also has Manuevering Thrusters on the back of the secondary hull that can gimble some also.

Does she have back-up warning ?    Beeeep    Beeeeep   Beeeeep    ;)

I embedded the poly block in  Aves  epoxy  at a slight tilt so she sits " adrift "

Then fill the construction joints seen unaddressed on her port side :

Starboard side and the joint under the aft end are fixed :

;D  I was just watching your latest upload  .
I haven't even un-bagged any of the parts for the Enterprise .

Looks like I'll have some bench time with it getting all the seams looking right  .
I kinda expect that with a snap-fit though  .

That last group of pix above brought some issues to my attention as usual .

One of them being this void atop the starboard fin.  ( wing ? canard ? plastic triangle ? ) :

I guess I would have seen it when I primer'd it but better now  ,,   and I wasn't sure if I should fill the joint between the hull and the engine section     -- but yeah   ;D . Definitely

I'll primer it with the  Tamiya  surface primer .
So , primer pix of the  Botany Bay  up next

I'm going for the way they appear on the tube-screen .
But  , even though the  Botany Bay  appears the same as the  Enterprise  due to the set lighting , I'll weather it towards that lacquer'd plywood color that the prop was   ;D  -- like 3 century old white space-paint  -- plus the other damage & soot effects

Weird, mine does not have that void in the bridge wing... Huh. I deliberately left a few of the nipper marks in the plastic to simulate meteoriod hits like of the studio model. I doubt I'd leave that though.  Thinking about another drybrushing of light grey on my BB cos it still seems a bit too red/brown for me.

Yeah   -- it's from air pocket in the mold  , I assume  .
It won't be on all of them  .
 Mine's special    ;D

Look almost like a witness mark from an ejector pin .
but there wouldn't be one going that direction  .
