1/24 VS Tiger I conversion
« on: Fri Jul, 14, 2017, 09:10:PM »
This thing's been sitting around for years  ,
I keep thinking about re-painting it  .  or something .

  Sorta-Suspension :

 Snap-Fit links :

.. . maybe make it into something freaky to harass the dogs with
Need to put a camera on it ( in it )  --  modify the turret

 It's one of these things  --->   http://www.vstankusa.com/product-tiger1-early.html

...  If anyone is interested in buying it let me know .
        It all works
Low miles   ;D   .     I just opened it up to see if maybe I'd be motivated to do something with it .
But I got plenty of other projects going on .

                                                            Cheers .

Looking pretty good there

  Heh heh  -    ;D

WHAT a PITA this thingy has been  !!

Months back , I grabbed some rattle-cans in the Home Depot for a quick make-over  .
Turned out to be anything but    :P

That copper  --   Rustoleum  " Bright Coat Copper " -   never cures   ::) ???   ,,  not enough to handle .
A day after the first painting  , I ended up with finger prints all in it from light , light handling . So I figure it just needed another day or 2   ....
After repainting and repeating the finger print issue  - repeatedly  -  I phoned Rustoleum about this issue .
I don't think she really understood what I was telling her  ( the Rustoleum rep )  -  she acknowledged that the paint was delicate  , but their enamel clear coat would seal it in   ---  but the actual issue is that the " cured " coating is toooooo soft and plastic  . Even after weeks  .

The beginning of this week  , I finally got around to reassembling the thing and foolishly left the turret sitting inverted upon a wad of paper towels  ,,,,

,,,,, now this is after effectively a month of " curing "  -  the copper with the enamel clear atop it   :

That's just the mass of the turret pushing the folds of the paper towel into the paint over a 12 hour period .

                     BEWARE  THIS  RUSTO   !!

Whaaa ?    In just regular gloss black ?

I've really never had an issue with Rustoleum --- ( just be sure you remove and clean the spray-cap on their primers after use , or you won't be using that cap ever again ) ---  the copper on the hull seems to be fine   . It doesn't have the multitude of coats that the turret does though . The turret currently seems resistant to fingerprints  , though I'm not gonna try&see real hard   ;)

When you repaint that stuff  , even after it has "cured " for a week or weeks  , the fingerprints disappear as if you had just placed them in fresh-wet paint an then saturated the area with more paint  .  Beyond strange . I polished the fingerprints with a Q-tip to see if the paint was plastic enough to rub them away - with zero effect . Makes me wonder if that extra 10-15 degrees of skin temp plays a part  . ?? Pffft  .
 I had just gotten the turret looking 100%  :P  ( again )
I got home from work that afternoon and mumbled to myself  " oh yeah  , it's probably gonna have all kinds of grooves smashed into the paint now , dummy "  .
And it did .

Looks like she had a run-in mit Jabo prior to her parade paint    ;D

We're done with her  . She's good enough to go back up on high for another many moons ...
I'm starting into the 2 kits Dean sent me   ;D   -  Gonna crank out some Amarillo Armor  !  some Hanomag Type 59 and 3/8's
