I own this old Mongram/Revell 1:48 P-40, as well as an Airfix and an Academy in the same scale. I'd like to buy the 1:48 Hasegawa one too. Maybe I'd build them all, one after another, starting with this Mongram/Revell one first. Then I'll have several Flying Tigers lined up on the shelf. Hmmm...

Bird looks like it's been through a lot, Joe.
Nicely done

All the discoloration around the entry to the pit is really cool.

My friends this build is finished.

Following the last update the little things were completed and attached.  There was one issue that is now a glaring reminder to me that it is not over until it is over.  One of the last attachments was the clear parts.  Following my normal procedure I fitted them and then used Tamiya Extra Thin to attach.  This time the glue marred the surface and made the clear nasty.  This does happen and in itself it did not bother me too much except for the idea that I had been working this "live" and did not have alternative parts.

All in all this experiment was a success in my mind and I put it to the shelf with a smile.

All comments, critiques, and criticism are encouraged.

Excellent results.
About the only thing missing to my eyes would be some exhaust stains

Your finish is excellent!  I think it looks like the aircraft in the Philippines probably looked in December 41/January 42, during the Japanese invasion.  You give me encouragement to continue experimenting with oils for weathering this way.

If there is any criticism I could offer, it's that I think you have the side window panels reversed, left one on the right side and vice versa.  The gaps between the trailing edge of the canopy and the leading edge of those panels suggests that.

Many many thanks all.  Much appreciated.

The clears are backwards.  Again even with that I will call this a success.
