MPC Hoth Rebel Base model set
« on: Sun Feb, 26, 2017, 11:58:PM »
If current projects are elligible, I'll join the group build with the Rebel Base I've been working on. I started last summer lighting up the Rebel Transport that comes with this kit, but I screwed up royally and I am starting it over from the beginning. I've added the Millenium Falcon and two X-Wings to this endeavor. The Y-Wings that come with this kit SUCK and obviously no source material was provided to the designers at the time because everything else is pretty decent. I will have these four ships flying in formation on a base, lit up with LEDs, LED tape, and fiber optics. This is the first ever kit I've tried lighting.

Here are photos of what I've been up to.

I have build videos of this project on my YouTube Channel.

May the Force be with you.

Same here - really like your channel Greg - I like the long format vids...very conversational. I watch em (and others) when I'm in the cave working on the Falcon.

Thanks! I'd rather show and not tell. I understand many people would prefer shorter videos, but there are many who appreciate the way they are, and I don't feel like changing. I'll edit out the times when my daughter barges into the room and announces, "I HAVE TO GO POO!" and other stuff. Otherwise, I try not to gloss over stuff.

Actually, Scott, I think your videos are about right. As far as modeling videos go on YouTube, I've noticed these categories:

1. People who simply show their completed model.
2. People who give progress updates and talk what they've done.
3. People who show themselves working on the model, with time lapse and music playing.
4. People who show themselves working on the model, and just leave the footage basically as-is, but maybe with some edits.

So while I applaud anybody contributing to the YouTube modeling community, #1 is the least helpful. Take a look at this video of a fantastic build of the 1:1000 Enterprise Refit that's beautifully lit-up. It's very awe-inspiring, but it only shows the finished result and I am sure that John especially would like to see how this was built up because that's what he is working on at the moment.

Style #2 is what John usually does, as does Boyd/Trek Works. Style #3 is like what Sall MY does (I need to check his channel out again soon) and my videos are pretty much #4. Scott, I'd say that your videos incorporate styles 2-4, and you do it well. I'm not going to do style 3 myself though because it takes too much effort and I'm not so quick with using video editing software. I know Hobby Man Mike tried doing style #3 and he told me it burned him out. RebelsAtCloudNine has been doing the #3 route lately and I miss his voice. He wants to do a narration, and while that works, again it's too much work for me and I'd rather spend the effort trying to do something stupid/funny instead. Oh, and John has his awesome cats. I just felt like mentioning that.

That's a pretty dead-on breakdown. Cool and thanks. It is alot of extra work doing the editing etc... takes me one full morning (3 - 4hrs) each week.

I really should make a video on editing, I don't spend a lot of time on it.    Unless it is something special....

And the cats will make an appearance soon, I promise!

I have that kit. I loved it as a kid, but like the Battle of Hoth kit, the scales are all over the place on the vehicles

It's so tempting though to just toss every vehicle, pick up the FFG game Rebel Transport, the Bandai or Fine Molds 1/144 Falcon and some F-toy or Bandai 1/144 speeders and X-wings  :P

Looking forward to seeing more

Nice! Tears For Fears was my favorite for a while. Their very first album was the one I listened to the most. It's a shame how Roland's ego got in the way of having the band as a duo.

I miss having a cat. Actually, I used to be extremely allergic to cats as a child, and my nose would be constantly running whenever we visited Grandma's house. Then in junior high I got over that allergy and we had three cats.
